"Thursday, October 13, 2016" The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial is hosting a Victory Gala at the Royal Oak Farmers Market from 5:30 till 10 in Royal Oak. Guest speaker is John "Tig" Tiegen, the Hero of Benghazi attack. For complete information call 888-387-4157, the website, or see flyer.

"Friday & Saturday, October 14 & 15, 2016" Pontiac VFW post 1370 is holding a two day yard sale to support local vets, at their post at 800 Cesar E Chavez Ave, Pontiac. To donate items call them at 248-858-9501 or see flyer.
"Saturday, October 15, 2016" The Great Lakes National Cemetery Advisory Council is having a Fall Headstone Cleaning event at the cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd, Holly, from 9:30 till 2PM. Bring a 5 gallon bucket, soft scrub brush, etc. To register call Sherry at 810-919-7653 or see flyer.
"Thursday, October 20, 2016" The Metro Airport Freedom Center is hosting its annual gala at the DC3S Defense Center, 7205 Sterling Ponds Rd, Sterling Hgts, starting at 6PM till 9PM. Tickets are $50 per person. The center has hosted over 250,000 vets and their families since it was opened in 2011. Guess speaker is Robert Miller, author & photojournalist. "Friday, October 21, 2016 (NEW)" The Yankee Air Museum, at Wilow Run Airport, is host another in their author series, this time about the trench warfare of World War 1 by author Andrew Robertshaw. This will take place at the post, located at 630 E 11 Mile, Madison Hgts, from 7 till 11PM. Best & worse costume prizes will be offeree. "Sunday, October 23, 2016" The Michigan Military Technical & Historical Society will host another in their WWII lecture series at their location in Eastpointe from 1 till 4 PM. Today's lecture will be on the use of bikes by both the military & civilians during war time. Admission by donation.
"Wednesday, October 26, 2016 (NEW)" U of D - Mercy is hosting an Employment Discrimination Free Legal Aid Clinic. ADVANCED REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. by calling 313-596-0258. After a brief general information session, preregistered guests will have an opportunity to meet individually with an attorney and law student to discuss their legal matter and ask other legal questions. Providers are invited to register and attend the clinic too, so please free free to share this important information with your clients and colleagues. The clinic will be held in the sanctuary of Ss. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church located at 438 Saint Antoine Street in downtown Detroit. Saint Antoine Street is between Jefferson Avenue and Larned Street. Enter the sanctuary through the shared courtyard off of Larned Street. Metered parking is available on Saint Antoine, Larned and Jefferson. See flyer for more info.

"Peace of Mind for us older vets!" As we all get older we need to start thinking about our medical records, a living will, a regular will, funeral expenses, etc. The State Bar of Michigan has put together a terrific booklet covering these topics with forms you can fill out at home to cover a simple will, living will, etc. Take a look to see if you should do any of this! ALSO: Are you paying for supplemental Medicare coverage? For veterans with Medicare A & B, Humana offers a medical plan that costs $0 and offers increased civilian medical benefits as well as preventive dental, vision, a gym membership and more! "Thursday, October 13, 2016" The Desert Angles are hosting a Packing Party for the troops at the Oakland County Sportsman Club 4770 Waterford Road Clarkston, Mi., from 4 till 6PM. For the troops they are looking for: wipes - personal care - foot powder - socks - cans of pasta, tuna, chicken, fruit, refried beans, etc. - single serving meals - jerky - nuts - dried fruit - "pocket foods (anything that will fit into a packet to take out on missions) powdered drink mix - coffee - tea - energy bars - protein bars - sunflower seeds - ready to eat meals - Raymon noodles - crackers - granola bars - breakfast bars - Things to make them smile - a letter from YOU - nerf balls. And for K-9's they are looking for: waterless shampoo large Kong's (which are toys) paw & nose salve K-9 ear cleaner K-9 eye drops large rope chews collapsible food and water bowls . "Saturday, October 15, 2016" The Livonia DAV Chapter 114 is hosting a Flag Retirement Ceremony on Saturday October 15th. They are inviting all ROTC units and scouts (boys and girls) to participate so they can earn merit badges. In addition, we invite all veteran service organizations to bring their flags over to our chapter for proper disposal. We are inviting the community to participate and will be cooking hot dogs for everyone who wants one, or two. 30905 Plymouth Road, Livonia, 3-5 PM.
