Sons of The American Legion Elect Mike Moss National Commander - From the October MI Legionnaire

On Aug. 24, during the 43rd Sons of The American Legion national convention in Charlotte, N.C., Mike Moss was elected the SAL's national commander for the 2014-2015 membership year. Moss lives in Colorado and has been and still is very active in the Colorado Detachment. He has served on the national level as the Mid-West national vice commander and is a past chairman of the National Children & Youth Commission. Moss' eligibility for SAL membership is through his father, a Korean War Air Force veteran who flew B-29s and a 54-year member of The American Legion. One of Moss' earliest memories of The American Legion was when he was 8 years old and going to the local grocery store with his mother, also a 54-year member of the Legion Auxiliary, to sell poppies to raise money. Today is Feb 16 th , 2012 Welcome to the Michigan Legion Update This Friday, Saturday and Sunday Legionnaires from all over Michigan will gather in Flint Michigan for their Annual Winter Meeting.  Friday we will welcome our Special guest for the weekend, National Commander Fang Wong at the evening’s Commanders banquet.  Commander Wong will be with us all weekend. Members of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military and Veterans Affairs Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on State Police and Military Affairs and the Senate Standing Committee on Veterans, Military Affairs, and Home land Security Michigan National Guard Maj. Gen. Gregory Vadnais testified to the Joint Committee it will take a combination of federal and state programs, along with the help of veterans' service organizations, to put the growing number of servicemen and women to work after they leave active or reserve duty. At 30 percent, Michigan's jobless veterans rate is the highest in the nation - nearly double the national rate of 16 percent. "We gotta fix this," Vadnais said.
