Michigan American Legion Expand Veteran Services in Lansing

(LANSING) - The Michigan American Legion now has an accredited Veteran service officer available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday of each week. The American Legion Veteran service officer services all veterans and their families with filing claims to the Veterans Administration on the veteran's behalf or to check the status of a claim already filed. Veterans and current service members in the Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties now have more opportunities to file their claim or ask questions. Centrally located in the tri-county area at 212 N. Verlinden Ave., Lansing, MICH 48915, no appointment needed.  Office hours are from 8:30 am until 5 p.m.  Veterans may call ahead to ensure they are available at (517) 371-4720, ext 23. Put the American Legion on your side when it comes to dealing with the U.S. Department of Veterans Administration.   There is no charge for this service and we will represent you until the case is over. By Suzette Price, DVSO Greetings Legionnaires, from the 12 th floor of the federal building in Detroit,  The American Legion Department of Michigan Veterans Service Office.  For the past 16 months I have had the honor and privilege of working with the best veteran’s service organization in the nation and serving many of you.  During those 16 months I have learned many things about the claims process and as I take phone calls from veterans I understand the frustration many feel from the long wait times for their claim.  Our commitment is to service those claim as best and expediently as possible.  In May of 2011 I was trained that the claims process was anywhere from six to nine months long. VA Press Release Jul 7, 11 VA Creates Women Veterans Call Center

WASHINGTON (July 07, 2011) - The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has embarked on a major initiative to reach out to women Veterans in order to solicit their input on ways to enhance the health care services VA provides to women Veterans.  "We are taking a proactive approach to enhancing VA health care for women Veterans," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki. "We are seeking the input of women Veterans so that VA can continue to provide high quality health care to the growing numbers of women Veterans." Representatives at VA's Health Resource Center (HRC) are placing calls to women Veterans nationwide, asking them to share their experiences with VA and suggest potential enhancements that will further VA's mission to provide the best care anywhere.
