"Veterans Federal Benefits App for Smart Phones" Defense Mobile has just released apps for smart phones where you can see what is the latest news from the VA, what your benefits are, where to apply, and even many of the forms! A bit lacking on state benefits, but they tell me they are working on including those in the near future, but it does have several handy phone numbers for MI Vets. For iPhones use this link. For Android phones use this link. Get the app and see if you are missing anything!
"Brave Hearts Estate Center for Veterans" You might have caught a bit of news on this in the Sunday Free Press. This center, located in Pelson, assists in rehabilitating of wounded veterans through hunting, fishing, camping, and other activities. It is free! This is operated by Operation Injured Soldiers. EVENTS!
"Friday & Saturday, October 30 & 31, 2015" Vets Return Home is hosting an Halloween Hayride Pumpkin Hunt at Caroline House Farm, 1755 E Newark Rd, Lapeer. Festivities kick off at 3PM, ending at 8PM. Donation of $10 but veterans and their families are free. Apple cider & donuts provided. All proceeds benefit Vets Returning Home homeless shelter. For more info see the flyer.
"Sunday, November 1, 2015" The Student Veterans Association (SVA) at U of M Ann Arbor is hosting a free Wheelchair basketball game at the Crisler Center, Ann Arbor, with doors opening at 2PM. This free event will have a team of Army-Air Force vs a team of Navy-Marines. The U of M Dance Team, Cheer Team, and the 338th Army Band will also be there. All are welcome.
"Sunday, November 1, 2015" The Association of Women Vets will be hosting a Female Vet Stand Down, titled Dress for Success! There will be clothes, benefit seminars, resources, speakers, & a free lunch. For more info see attached flyer. To register early for the event visit their officialticketing website.
"Sunday, November 1, 2015 (NEW)" Dearborn American Legion Post 364, 3001 S Telegraph, Dearborn, is having an NFL Football Game Commander's Breakfast starting at 8AM. Have breakfast and watch the Lions game from England that starts at 8:30AM. Donation of $5 requested to help homeless vets. For more info see flyer.
"Tuesday, November 3, 2015 (UPDATE)" VetBizCentral will be hosting its 10th annual VET Conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Lansing. Keynote speaker will be Sid Taylor, CEO of SET Enterprises. "Tuesday, November 3, 2015" Michigan Works, the Ann Arbor VA Hospital & Washtenaw Community College, are teaming up to host a Veterans Hiring event for veterans & their families. The event will be held at the Washtenaw Community College, Morris Lawrence Bldg, 4800 E Huron River Dr, Ann Arbor, from 10AM till 1PM. For more info see their flyer.
"Wednesday, November 4, 2015 (NEW)" The Yankee Air Museum is hosting another in their free history presentations, this time on the Battle of the Bulge, one of the most acclaimed battles of WWII. Guest speaker will be Steven Mrozek, a WWII military historian. Will be presented in the General Purpose Room at the Museum at Willon Run airport, starting at 7:30PM.
"Friday, November 6, 2015 (NEW)" The Oakland Community College Students Veterans (SVA) is hosting a Stuff the Truck event at the Walmart, 4555 Michigan Ave, Canton, from 10AM till 4PM. "Friday, November 6, 2015 (NEW)" A 100 mile run will take place for 3 days in the Great Smoky Mountains to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Fund on Veterans Day. There is much information regarding this event so for more information contact Kerry at 810-516-7774 or see attached flyer.
"Friday & Saturday, November 6 & 7, 2015" The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency is hosting a Veteran Expo at the Dort Federal Credit Union, 3501 Lapeer Rd, Flint, on Friday from 10AM till 4PM, & Saturday from 9AM till Noon. Learn about benefits, services, meet employers, education specialists, etc. Learn more and pre-register at their official website.
"Saturday, November 7, 2015 (UPDATE)" The Detroit Annual Veterans Day Parade will kick off for the 10th time in downtown Detroit at 10AM. After the parade 5th 3rd Bank is hosting the 1st annual Downtown Festival Celebrating Veterans at Hart Plaza, starting at 11AM, and free for all vets. "Wednesday, November 11, 2015" The City of West Bloomfield and the Tuskegee Airmen-West Bloomfield Chapter cordially invite all veterans to attend a memorial honoring all our heroes, especially those whose lives were taken while serving their country. The Township Supervisor/Mayor will place a wreath at the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 9:00 am at City Hall located at 4550 Walnut Lake Road west of Orchard Lake Road in West Bloomfield, MI. "Wednesday, November 11, 2015 " Lawrence Technological University is hosting a Veterans Day Ceremony in the college of management in the atrium, 21000 W 10 Mile, Southfield, starting at 12:30PM. Come and have lunch with the student vets, which is free.
"Wednesday, November 11, 2015 (NEW)" Active Heroes is an all day telethon WAVE3 to lift 22 million pounds to raise money and awareness to help end veteran suicide. To sign up to be part of the lifting visit their website. For more information see flyer.
"Thursday, November 12, 2015 " Women Supporting Women in the Military and our Veterans is hosting a Hat & Scarf Suction at the Howell Elks Club, 2830 E Grand River, Howell, from 5:30 till 9PM. "Thursday, November 12, 2015 (NEW)" Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 267 is hosting an Hepatitis C Awareness & Education Initiative at the Dearborn Hgts VFW Post 6576, located at 6828 Waverly, Dearborn Hgts, from 10AM till Noon, including lunch.
