"Golf, Golf, & more Golf" It's that time of year when everyone is hosting a golf outing. To help you duffers pick the ones you like I am listing them here. Date, group hosting & where the golf takes place:

"Disaster Relief Assistance" Many veterans suffered with the recent flooding. Help may be coming from FEMA, but right now most are on their own. The Disabled American Veterans is offering $500 to qualified disabled vets. For more info contact the DAV at 313-964-6595. Other veterans may qualify for assistance from the Michigan Veterans Trust Fund which can provide grants up to $1500. See their website for more information or call them at 517-284-5299.

"Korean War Peace Medal" The Korean government is issuing to all veterans that served in the Korean War, both on land and sea, a peace medal. You must have served between 6/25/50 and 7/27/53. See attached for complete information and forms.

EVENTS

"Saturday, September 6, 2014" The Great Lakes National Cemetery Committee in Holly is having a Headstone Cleaning Day starting at 10AM. Everyone is welcome to help, especially Boy & Girl Scout units. Hot dogs and chips will be served. For more information and to let them know you are coming, contact Carl at his email address.

"Saturday, September 6, 2014" Trenton DAV Post 102 is hosting its 1st annual downriver Veterans Picnic & Information Expo from 11AM till 3PM at Elizabeth Park in Trenton. Service officers to answer your questions, the MI Memorial Wall, food, etc. See flyer for full information.

"Saturday, September 6, 2014" The American Legion Riders, Oxford Post 108, is hosting a Fallen Heroes Ride & Pig Roast at their post, located at 130 E Drahner Rd, Oxford, with the ride starting at 9AM, dinner about 5PM. For more information call Rebel at 248-413-9650 or see flyer.

"Saturday, September 6, 2014 (NEW)" American Legion Post 364 Fort Dearbron 3001 S. Telegraph Rd., Dearborn to have 13th Annual Hog Heaven Event from 1:00 p.m. until closing at 2:00 a.m. September 7th. 2014 Harley Davidson FLHX Street Glide 1st Prize. 2nd and 3rd Prizes are $500.00 each. Tickets on sale $10.00 each or 6 for $50.00. Contact the Post at 313-562-9090. All proceeds go to assisting veterans, their families and the Community. Do not need to there to win. 5,000 tickets sold. Currently only 1200 ticket left. Food, drinks, entertainment during the event.

"Saturday, September 6, 2014" Hooters of Troy is hosting its 4th annual Veterans Charity Car Show from 10AM till 2PM at their location at 2950 Rochester Rd, Troy. For more info call 248-740-1574 or see flyer.

"Saturday, September 6, 2014" St Clair Shores VFW Post 1146 is hosting a Baby Back Rib Out from 3 to 8PM at their post, 28404 Jefferson, St Clair Shores. Donation of $15 gets you ribs, potato salad, beans, etc. For more info call Paul at 586-293-5799 or see flyer.

"Saturday & Sunday, September 6 & 7, 2014" The Navy Blue Angels are coming to Selfridge Air National Guard Base with several shows.

"Sunday, September 7, 2014" Louis & Tom Mezza are hosting their 5th annual Bowling Party to benefit Homes for our Troops & VVA 154 Vet Center, at Lakeshore Lanes, 31025 Jefferson, St. Clair Shores. "Thursday, September 11, 2014 (NEW)" We are holding a ground breaking ceremony for the 1/24 Memorial at 1730hrs. The ceremony will take place behind the Chesterfielf Twp. Municipal Offices on Sugarbush Rd. off 21 Mile. Directions to the site can be found on our website www.1-24memorial.com . Please try and get the word out to all the veteran orgs. of this important event. The Memorial is being built to honor the 22 Marines from the 1/24 who were KIA in Iraq during their deployment back in 2006-2007.

"Thursday, September 11, 2014" The Fallen & Wounded Soldiers Fund is holding the 9/11 Day of Remembrance golf outing at the Moose Ridge Golf Course, 11801 Doane Rd, S Lyon. See flyer for complete information.

"Thursday, September 11, 2014 (UPDATE)" The Piquette Square Honor Guard will hold a Veterans Garden Dedication & Patriot Day observance starting at 3PM at Piquette Square, 6221 Brush, at Piquette. Everyone is invited to attend. A 9/11 ceremony will also take place. For complete info see flyer.

16.  September 6th, Saturday – "SELFRIDGE AIR SHOW".  Gates open at 8 a.m.  "Blue Angels flying this year!"

 

17.  September 6th, Saturday 12 Noon – "WAR DOG INTERNMENT" with Highland VFW Post 9914.   There will be a War Dog buried at the War Dog Memorial Cemetery at 11 Mile & Milford Road at 12 Noon.   There will dogs, who will be tribute to one of their fallen War Dogs.  If you have never seen this tribute, you need to come.   After the Internment, VFW 9914 Highland will be a light luncheon of hot dogs & chips.  VFW 9914 is located at 3200 North Duck Lake Road in Highland 48356.  Phone (248) 887-9914.

 

18.  September 6th, Saturday 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. – VFW 6691 Fraser – "2nd Annual Car Show Fundraiser".  Registration at 10:30 a.m.  Trophies at 3:30 p.m.  Food for Sale, Music, 50/50 Raffles and the Clubroom will be open for Adult Beverages.  This is "OPEN TO THE PUBLIC".  Please invite your Family & Friends.  All proceeds going for "Wreaths Across America", where we place wreaths on Veterans' Graves in the winter time at the cemeteries.  Also other VFW Programs.   VFW 6691 Fraser is located at 17075 Anita in Fraser 48026.  Phone (586) 294-1450.

 

19.  September 6th, Saturday 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. – Bruce Post 1146 St. Clair Shores – "BABY BACK RIB OUT".  Includes Baby Back Ribs, Potato Salad, Baked Beans, Fresh Corn on the Cob, Rolls, Dessert and Refreshments.  ALL for Just $15.  Bruce Post 1146 is located at 28404 Jefferson (N. or 11 Mile Road) in St. Clair Shores.

 

20.  September 7th, Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon - VFW 7573 New Baltimore – "BIG BREAKFAST".  Includes Eggs and Omelets to Order, Scrambled Eggs, French Toast, Homemade Gravy, Biscuits, Bacon, Sausage, and Potatoes.  Minimum donation of $6 per person.  Children 10 and Under $2.  WW II Veterans eat FREE!  Great Breakfast! 21.  September 7th, Sunday "SELFRIDGE AIR SHOW".  Gates open at 8:00 a.m.  "Blue Angels flying this year!".

 

22.  September 7th, Sunday 1:00 p.m. – VFW 6802 Richmond – "Richmond's Good Ole Days Parade".    If your Post and Auxiliary would like to march in the Richmond's Parade with VFW 6802 Color Guard & Ladies Auxiliary, meet at the VFW 6802 Post at 11:30 a.m. with your COLORS.   There will be an Afterglow Luncheon at VFW 6802 Richmond "after" the parade.  VFW 6802 Richmond is located at 34339 Division in Richmond 48062.  Phone (586) 727-1436.
