Happy Labor Day Weekend!

"Golf, Golf, & more Golf" It's that time of year when everyone is hosting a golf outing. To help you duffers pick the ones you like I am listing them here. Date, group hosting & where the golf takes place:

  • "Saturday, September 27, 2014" Women Supporting Women Veterans in Hartland. Flyer.
  • "Sunday, September 28, 2014" Wayne County VCAT in Redford. Flyer.

"Disaster Relief Assistance" Many veterans suffered with the recent flooding. Help may be coming from FEMA, but right now most are on their own. The Disabled American Veterans is offering $500 to qualified disabled vets. For more info contact the DAV at 313-964-6595. Other veterans may qualify for assistance from the Michigan Veterans Trust Fund which can provide grants up to $1500. See their website for more information or call them at 517-284-5299.

"Korean War Peace Medal" The Korean government is issuing to all veterans that served in the Korean War, both on land and sea, a peace medal. You must have served between 6/25/50 and 7/27/53. See attached for complete information and forms.

EVENTS

"Thursday, August 28, 2014" An invitation has been extended to veterans and their family members to attend the Fifth Third Bank Michigan State Fair Charity Preview, which will take place at the Suburban Collection Showplace, 46100 Grand River Avenue, Novi, MI 48374 on: Thursday, August 28, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Military identification will be required for the veteran(s) and/or military member(s) at the Preview.

"Thursday thru Monday, August 28 thru September 1, 2014" The Moving Vietnam Wall will be on display all days at the Hamburg Township Bennett Park. Admission is free. See flyer or call 586-861-7209 for more information.

"Saturday, August 30, 2014" Romeo VFW Post 2052 is hosting the annual Romeo Peach Festival Steak Out from 4 to 8PM, 70455 McVicar Rd, Bruce Twp. See flyer for menu and prices.

"Wednesday, September 3, 2014 (NEW)" The Yankee Air Museum will present, as part of their ongoing series, Daniel Gabler, who will speak about restoring airfield in Africa. Starts at 7:30PM in the General Purpose room of the Museum, located at Willow Run Airport.

(LANSING) - The Michigan American Legion now has an accredited Veteran service officer available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday of each week. The American Legion Veteran service officer services all veterans and their families with filing claims to the Veterans Administration on the veteran's behalf or to check the status of a claim already filed. Veterans and current service members in the Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties now have more opportunities to file their claim or ask questions. Centrally located in the tri-county area at 212 N.
