"Tiger Baseball Tickets" Active members and Veterans of the military are eligible to purchase half-price box office dynamically priced Upper Box Infield and Upper Reserved tickets to all 2014 Monday-Thursday regular season home games excluding July 8, 9 and August 26, 27 and 28. Tickets must be purchased at the Comerica Park Box Office and a valid military ID or Veteran ID must be presented at time of purchase. EVENTS

"Saturday, August 2, 2014" The Great Lakes National Cemetery Advisory Council is hosting its 6th Annual Golf Outing at the Lapeer Country Club, 3786 Hunt Rd, Lapeer, with a 7AM registration, 8AM shotgun start. This event has filled fast in previous years. Cost is $75 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, dinner, etc. See attached for more details and to register.

"Saturday, August 2, 2014" Milford American Legion Riders Post 216 is hosting a Poker Run to support veteran causes. Approximately 100 miles, starting and ending at the post, 510 W Commerce Rd, Milford. Ride starts at 10AM, ends at 5PM. Cost is $20 per rider, $20 per passenger, which includes food & beverages at the end of the ride. See flyer for more information.

"Saturday, August 2, 2014" Pontiac VVA Chapter 133 is hosting their 11th annual golf outing at Highland Hills Golf Course, 2075 Oakland Dr, Highland, with a 9am start. Cost is $70 per person, $280 per team, which includes 18 holes, cart, and dinner afterwards. For more info see attached form.

"Saturday, August 2, 2014" Wayne State University Student Veterans Association is hosting its 4th annual Golf Outing for Veterans at the Links of Novi, 50395 W 10 Mile, Novi, with a Noon resistration & lunch. "Saturday, August 2, 2014" Draves Auto Center, 2626 N Eastman Rd, Midland, is hosting an Autoshow fundraiser for the Fallen & Wounded Soldiers Fund from 8AM to 4PM. Registration is $15. Awesome cars, awards, promotions, silent auction, DJ, etc. For more info see attached flyer.

"Wednesday, August 6, 2014"The Yankee Air Museum is hosting their monthly free education series, this month the author of the book, Arsenal of Democracy, will discuss Detroit's leadership during the war, with several Rosie the Riverters on hand. Program starts at 7:30PM. Even takes place at the Museum at Willow Run Airport in Belleville.

"Wednesday, August 6, 2014 (NEW)" The John Dingell VA Hospital & Community Housing are hosting a seminar to discuss ending Veteran Homelessness at Genisys Credit Union, Woodward just south of Martin Luther King Blvd, from 9AM to 4PM. "Thursday, August 7, 2014" The Dingell VA Hospital and Macomb Community College are co-hosting a seminar, working with Combat Veteran Population, from 11AM to 2PM. This seminar includes many guest speakers. Event will be held on the Macomb CC Campus, Lorenzo Learning Center. See flyer for more information.

Affidavit Required in December I n late 2013 the state legislature and the governor enacted Public Act 161 of 2013, the Disabled Veterans Exemption.  This act gives qualifying disabled veterans or their unremarried surviving spouses a property tax exemption for their primary residence in Michigan.  For some qualifying veterans, not having to pay their property taxes could mean the difference of staying in their current home or having to move. Summary of Benefits The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will be mailing out to all veterans who receive benefits their ‘summary of benefits’ letter in the month of November and December.  The veteran will need that summary along with Michigan Treasury Form 5107.   The surviving unremarried spouse will need to provide the last summary of benefits letter or other documentation showing the qualifying veterans status at time of death and Form 5107. War, Sacrifice and America's Veterans By Dale  Barnett While we can all rejoice this Veterans Day that the steady flow of U.S. casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan has slowed to a trickle, we must never forget the incredible sacrifice that America's defenders continue to make on our behalf. Such is the case of Master Sergeant Joshua Wheeler, who died leading a Delta Force rescue mission of ISIS hostages held in Iraq on Oct. 22.  A veteran of 14 combat deployments, his sacrifice is shared by four boys who are now fatherless and his wife, who became a widow far too early. Legion opposes permanent extension of Choice program   WASHINGTON, May 27, 2016 — During a congressional hearing May 24, The American Legion delivered written and oral testimony regarding access to healthcare through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).   Director of Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation Lou Celli addressed members of the Senate's Committee on Veterans' Affairs, highlighting the Legion's views on the Care Veterans Deserve Act of 2016.   If enacted, this Act would eliminate the VA's Veterans Choice Program (VCP) termination date, expand program eligibility, and extend certain operating hours of VA pharmacies and medical facilities.   "We stated at the time, and state here again today, that we never supported Choice becoming a permanent program," Celli said.
