#Veteran Events & Announcements 1/4 to 2/7

Listed below are only the events I have for the next 28+ days here in the Metro Detroit area, of which there are 6 new items (we're into our slow time). If your group has an event benefiting veterans, or you hear of an event, please share with me so I can share with the veteran community.  I would rather get an event 3 times than not at all!  Please make sure any flyer lists address of event and a contact person!

ANNOUNCEMENTS!
"Home Front Strong" This is an 8 week program to help military or veteran spouses/partners prepare for, cope with, or rebound from the challenges of deployment and military life. Participants can receive $140 for completing. For complete info and locations see flyer.
"Accommodating Wounded Warriors" Mentioned this a year ago but with the Holidays coming worth mentioning again. If you need special assistance when flying (wheelchair, early boarding, etc) the TSA will meet you at the door of the airport, get you thru security, and then to your gate. Your plane will also than be met by the TSA to help you get to baggage claim, etc. You must notify the TSA of your travel schedule at least 24 hours in advance at 888-262-2396 or via email at msusoc@dhs.gov.

"Saturday, January 6, 2018 (NEW)" Our organization the Michigan Warrior Hockey Program, a 501(c)(3) non-profit hockey program for Disabled Veterans is hosting a benefit skate to honor the fallen Oakland County Sheriff's Deputy Eric Overall and all those who protect the Thin Blue Line. With the assistance of the Detroit Police Department Hockey Team our event will provide all money raised to the family of Deputy Overall. I have attached our flyer regarding the Event and our hope with your help is to get as much attendance and participation from the community as possible! "Monday, January 8, 2018 " Southfield Human Services & Lakeside Legal Aid is offering an Expungement Clinic at the Southfield Library from 2 till 6PM. For residents of Wayne, Oakland, & Macomb counties. To see who is eligible and to make an appointment call 248-796-4542. See flyer also.
"Wednesday, January 10, 2018 " DAV Chapter 129 is hosting a Taste of Italy & Movie Night at their place, 47326 Dequindre Rd, Shelby Twp, starting at 4PM. Cost is $15 per person. For more info see flyer.
"Sunday, January 14, 2018 (NEW)" The Michigan Military Technical & Historical Society presents another in their lecture series on World War II, this time Politics, Torch, & Casablanca. This is the 75th anniversary of the famous Casablanca Conference, by Chris Causley. Admission by donation. Located at 16600 Stevens, Eastpointe. Doors open at 2PM. See flyer for more info.
"Saturday, January 20, 2018 " Milford American Legion Post 216 is hosting a family friendly Pure Pro Wrestling event at their post, 1510 Commerce Rd, Milford, at both 3:30 & 7PM. General admission is $10. For complete info see flyer.
"Tuesday, January 23, 2018 " The Arsenal of Democracy Chapter, Association of the US Army, is hosting its 2nd annual Cigar Night at Jenuwune Cigar Factory Outlet, 44791 Schoenherr Rd, Sterling Hgts, starting at 5PM. $25 for pre registration, $30 at the door. "Friday, January 26, 2018 " The Student Veterans of America, U of M Ann Arbor chapter, is hosting their annual benefit dinner, 530 S State St, Ann Arbor, with a vip cocktail hour starting at 5PM, reception at 6. "Saturday, January 27, 2018 " The U of M Student Vets Association in Ann Arbor is hosting their annual Army vs Navy Wheelchair Basketball Game, at Crisler Center, with tip-off at 5PM. This is a free event for all. U of M Dance Team, U of M Cheerleader Team, 338th Army Band, etc. See flyer for more info.
"Saturday, January 27, 2018 (NEW)" Livonia American Post 32 is hosting the 12th annual Polar Bear Steak Dinner to honor those that died in WW I in Russia. All proceeds to help local vets. Cost is $18 per person. From 5 to 8PM at Post 32, 9318 Newburgh Rd, Livonia. See flyer for complete info.
"Sunday, January 28, 2018 (NEW)" Oxford Legion Post 108 is hosting the annual Four Chaplains Interfaith Memorial Service at 2PM. Post is located at 130 E. Drahner Rd., Oxford. Admission is free and all are welcome. For more info see flyer.
"Saturday, February 3, 2018 " Join fans of The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial as we check out the new Little Caesars Arena, shoot a free throw and watch the Detroit Pistons take on the Miami Heat on Saturday, February 3 at 7:00. Everyone also gets a free Pistons item and 25 attendees at random can high five Miami Heat players as they come to the floor. Tickets are discounted to $46 100 level and $28 200 level. "Wednesday, February 7, 2018 " Southfield VFW Post 2645 will be holding its' monthly Spaghetti Dinner, and social, at 24222 W Nine Mile, Southfield from 5 till 7PM. Cost is $7 and includes a single meal, salad, & desert. A second helping of spaghetti is included. For more info see flyer.
