"Calling all Marines!" Marine week (Note: The site currently talks about Nashville last year, but gives you an idea of what it will be like here in Detroit) is coming to downtown Detroit the week of September 6th. The Marine Corps is looking for Marines of all generations to help with the event. Still in the planning stage but if you would like to get involved contact SSgt Ana Villanueva at the Marine Corps at 703-614-6092 or via email.
"Veteran Study on VA Hospitals" There will be a study on how vets get treated at the VA in Ann Arbor. You get $100 for participating! For more info on this project, set for June 10th, see flyer.

"Friday, August 18, 2017" The Metro Airport Freedom Center, which has hosted over 300,000 guests since opening in 2011, is hosting a golf outing at the Selfridge Golf Course, Hall Rd, Harrison Twp, with an 8AM best ball scramble. Cost is $100 per person ($380 foursome), lunch & Deli Sandwich Bar. Watch the Thunderbirds practice while you golf. Sponsors are wanted as well as golfers! Note: See form/flyer for rules regarding entrance to Selfridge and for more information. Help the center continue to help those that serve today.
"Friday, May 12, 2017" The US & Canadian Military Friendship dinner, the 58th, will be held this year at the Polish American Cultural Center, Troy, starting at 6:30PM with a reception. A recent (2016) recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor, Retired U.S. Army Lt. Colonel Charles Kettles, will be the keynote speaker and share his insights on aviation and ground combat experienced as a Vietnam helicopter pilot. "This colorful event is filled with military traditions, music and pageantry," said LTC. Charles Thornell, U.S. Army Retired, the Chair of this year's event. "The 126th Army Band will perform military and dance music; a Scottish piper in full regalia will pipe in the color guard; and vibrant military dress uniforms of the American and Canadian forces will be worn. "Saturday, May 13, 2017" Mt Clemens Amvets Post 29 is hosting a luncheon and memorial service for the families of our fallen military from Noon till 3PM, so they are reaching out to all Gold Star Mothers. "Saturday, May 13, 2017" The Southfield Veterans' Commission is holding its annual veteran benefit seminar, 8AM till 1PM, at Southfield City Hall, 26000 Evergreen, Southfield (Parks & Rec entrance). "Saturday, May 13, 2017" The Blue Star Mothers are holding their annual 5K run/walk for fun at the St. Clair Middle School, 4335 Yankee Rd, St. Clair, starting at 9AM. $25 registration by 4/29. "Saturday, May 13, 2017" The Rochester-Oakland Cadet Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol is having an honor ceremony starting at 8:30AM at Stoney Creek High School, 575 E Tienken Rd, Rochester Hills. This is free and open to the public. For more info see flyer.
"Saturday, May 13, 2017" The Detroit Wolverine Chapter 67 of the Women's Army Corps Veterans Association is hosting their 75th anniversary scholarship dinner dance from 6:30PM till 11PM at Lyskawa-Tutro VFW 7546, 6828 Waverly, Dearborn Hgts. "Monday, May 15, 2017 (SOLD OUT)" The Michigan Air Force Association & the AFA Selfridge Chapter 129 are hosting a birthday bash dinner to celebrate the 100th birthday of Selfridge and the 70th birthday of the US Air Force. Dinner will be held at Twin Lakes Golf & Swim Club, 455 Twin Lakes Dr, Oakland Twp, starting at 6PM, ending at 10. Guest speaker will be General John Slocum of Selfridge. "Monday, May 15, 2017 (NEW)" The Detroit VA Hosptial is hosting a veterans Town Hall meeting for all vets from 10AM till 11:30 AM in the Auditorium, 4646 John R, Detroit. All are welcome to express their views.

"Saturday, May 20, 2017" Northville High School will hosting their annual Armed Forces Day to raise money for various veteran groups. This is a free event kicking off with a 5K run (see info flyer on run), military vehicles, then baseball at 11AM. See flyer for more info.
"Saturday, May 20, 2017" The Steam Railroading Institute is hosting a World War 1 Centennial & Veterans Tribute Train. Train will depart Mt. Pleasant for a 3 hour train ride on historic #1225, the Polar Express, and visit veteran sites in Cadillac, etc. For more info and tickets see flyer.
"Monday, May 22, 2017" The Military LPGA Pro-Am Valor Cup Golf Outing will take place at the golf course at Selfridge starting at 11AM. All women veterans are encouraged to attend and I believe it is free for them! For complete info call 734-707-0789 or see flyer.
"Monday to Saturday, May 22-28, 2017" The LPGA Volvik Championship is at the Travis Pointe Country Club, Ann Arbor, again this year - May 22 thru 28. "Tuesday, May 23, 2017" Soldier Angels is again hosting a Mobile Food Distribution at the American Legion, 19486 Sherwood, Detroit, from 12 till 2PM. You must register in advance at 210-629-0020.
