Listed below are only the events I have for the next 21 days here in the Metro Detroit area, of which there are 9 new items. You can also go to the Legion 328 website to download any flyer for these and future events (thru August) at  http://www.legionpost328.org/events.html 

If your group has an event benefiting veterans, or you hear of an event, please share with me so I can share with the veteran community.  I would rather get an event 3 times than not at all!  Please make sure any flyer lists address of event and a contact person!

"Calling all Marines!" Marine week (Note: The site currently talks about Nashville last year, but gives you an idea of what it will be like here in Detroit) is coming to downtown Detroit the week of September 6th. The Marine Corps is looking for Marines of all generations to help with the event. EVENTS!

"Now thru April 30" In observance of the Month of the Military Child, the Detroit Zoo is offering a special BOGO offer to all veterans – active, honorably discharged and retired! Veterans who present either a military ID or Form DD-214 with the purchase of one general admission ticket will be given a second general admission ticket of equal or lesser value at no cost. This promotion is valid April 17-30. The zoo is located in Royal Oak.

"Friday, August 18, 2017" The Metro Airport Freedom Center, which has hosted over 300,000 guests since opening in 2011, is hosting a golf outing at the Selfridge Golf Course, Hall Rd, Harrison Twp, with an 8AM best ball scramble. Cost is $100 per person ($380 foursome), lunch & Deli Sandwich Bar. Watch the Thunderbirds practice while you golf. Sponsors are wanted as well as golfers! Note: See form/flyer for rules regarding entrance to Selfridge and for more information. Help the center continue to help those that serve today.

"Thursday, April 27, 2017" The Desert Angels are hosting another in their series of Packing Parties for the troops. Remember, postage alone for a single package overseas can be as high as $18 so even if you can't help pack you can always drop off a few dollars toward the shipping. Today's event is: Detroit Country Day 8th Grade Project from 1 till 2:15PM. Contact Louise at office@thedesertangel.org .

"Friday, April 28, 2017 (NEW)" The Canton Foundation, along with Camp Liberty, is hosting a free seminar for veterans, and their families, on fighting PTSD, and those abusing Drugs or Alcohol. "Saturday, April 29, 2017" The Fallen & Wounded Soldiers Fund is hosting Cocktails @ Hots d'Oeuvers at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial starting at 6PM. Tickets are $150 each. Guest Speaker is Evan Robinson, Special Forces Operator. For more info see flyer.

"Saturday, April 29, 2017" The Great Lakes National Cemetery Advisory Council will have its annual spring headstone cleaning starting at 9:5AM. Bring a 5 gallon bucket & soft scrub brush. For more info call 810-919-7653 or see flyer.

"Saturday, April 29, 2017" The Yankee Air Museum is hosting an American Bistro Night, a 1940's USO Dinner Dance, at their facility, 801 Kirk Profit Dr, Willow Run Airport, with doors opening at 5:30PM, dinner at 6:30PM. Tickets are $45 in advance by contacting them at 734-483-4030.

"Monday, May 1, 2017 (NEW)" The Clinton Twp Public Library is hosting a Selfridge Town Hall starting at 6PM. at 40900 Romeo Plank Rd, Clinton Twp. Guest speaker is Brig Gen John Slocum, commander of Selfridge. "Wednesday, May 3, 2017" Southfield VFW 2645 is hosting its monthly Spaghetti Dinner social from 5 till 7PM at the post, 24222 W 9 Mile, Southfield, entrance at the rear of the building. $7 for one full spaghetti dinner, plus one 2nd portion of spaghetti with garlic bread! "Wednesday, May 3, 2017 (NEW)" The Yankee Air Museum is hosting another in their WWII lecture series in the General Purpose Room of the museum, Willow Run Airport, starting at 7PM. Today's lectures on how it was to be a Jew serving in the US Military during the war.

"Saturday, May 6, 2017" Aviation's International presents Historic Inaugural Speaker Event from 11AM till 6PM at the Windsor Airport, 2600 Airport Rd, Windsor. Visit their museum, see static displays, etc. Cost is $20 per person, free parking. For more information call 226-787-2795 or see flyer.

"Saturday, May 6, 2017" Madison Hgts VFW Post 1407 Auxiliary is hosting a Mexican Fiesta from 4 till 8PM at the post, 630 E 11 Mile Rd, Madison Hgts. Tacos, fajitas, enchiladad, etc., fpr $8 per person. See flyer for more info.

"Saturday, May 6, 2017" The VFW & UAW Local 5960 are holding a VSO training seminar and benefits awareness class at the union hall, 180 E Silverbell Rd, Lake Orion, from 9AM till 3:30PM, with the second part held on the following Saturday, May 13th. "Tuesday, May 9, 2017" The Brain Injury Association of Michigan, and the Women Serving Women Vets, is having an educational & support networking event for female veterans on surviving brain injury. "Friday, May 12, 2017" The US & Canadian Military Friendship dinner, the 58th, will be held this year at the Polish American Cultural Center, Troy, starting at 6:30PM with a reception. A recent (2016) recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor, Retired U.S. Army Lt. Colonel Charles Kettles, will be the keynote speaker and share his insights on aviation and ground combat experienced as a Vietnam helicopter pilot. "This colorful event is filled with military traditions, music and pageantry," said LTC. Charles Thornell, U.S. Army Retired, the Chair of this year's event. "The 126th Army Band will perform military and dance music; a Scottish piper in full regalia will pipe in the color guard; and vibrant military dress uniforms of the American and Canadian forces will be worn. "Saturday, May 13, 2017" Mt Clemens Amvets Post 29 is hosting a luncheon and memorial service for the families of our fallen military from Noon till 3PM, so they are reaching out to all Gold Star Mothers. "Saturday, May 13, 2017" The Southfield Veterans' Commission is holding its annual veteran benefit seminar, 8AM till 1PM, at Southfield City Hall, 26000 Evergreen, Southfield (Parks & Rec entrance). "Saturday, May 13, 2017" The Blue Star Mothers are holding their annual 5K run/walk for fun at the St. Clair Middle School, 4335 Yankee Rd, St. Clair, starting at 9AM. $25 registration by 4/29. "Saturday, May 13, 2017 (NEW)" The Rochester-Oakland Cadet Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol is having an honor ceremony starting at 8:30AM at Stoney Creek High School, 575 E Tienken Rd, Rochester Hills. This is free and open to the public. For more info see flyer.

"Saturday, May 13, 2017" The Detroit Wolverine Chapter 67 of the Women's Army Corps Veterans Association is hosting their 75th anniversary scholarship dinner dance from 6:30PM till 11PM at Lyskawa-Tutro VFW 7546, 6828 Waverly, Dearborn Hgts.
