#Veteran Events & Announcements 3/30 to 4/19

Listed below are the events I have for the next 21 days here in the Metro Detroit area, of which there are 5 new items. You can also go to the Legion 328 website to download any flyer for these future events at  http://www.legionpost328.org/events.html 

If your group has an event benefiting veterans, or you hear of an event, please share with me so I can share with the veteran community.  I would rather get an event 3 times than not at all!  Please make sure any flyer lists address of event and a contact person!

ANNOUNCEMENTS!

"Low Cost Piston Tickets" The IAVA is offering to vets discount tickets to a number of Piston games at the Palace. Cost is $20 each to the following games. Click on the game you would like to attend to order.

"Camp Liberty" This spring the camp a cleanup/fixup/repair of their facility, one used by many many veterans all summer long. They seek volunteers for this work. Please see flyer for dates and other info.

"Sleeping Problems?" The Detroit VA Hospital in conjunction with the Wayne State University School of Medicine are currently conducting a research study aimed at veterans (We study individuals who have sleep apnea as well as hypertension). They continuously try to spread the word and reach out to veterans to inform them about the study in order to recruit eligible participants. Vets participating in this study are compensated. "Friday's in March, 2017" Berkley Legion Post 374 is hosting a Fish Fry every Friday starting on the 3rd, from 5 till 8PM. Post located at 2079 W 12 Mile, Berkley. For more info & pricing see flyer.

"Saturday, April 1, 2017" In honor of Marine veteran Clay Hunt, an original member of Team Rubicon who took his own life after battling PTS and depression, Team Rubicon, Team Red White and Blue, and The Mission Continues will partner to participate in the 5th annual Run as One on April 16th. The event will as serve a celebration of a networks required to empower, unite and enrich the lives of Veterans. It will also be a symbol of leadership, action, and collaboration across the veterans support landscape within our local communities. "Sunday, April 2, 2017" The Michigan Military Technical & Historical Society (www.mimths.org) is hosting another in their lecture series and book review, "A Victim No More," A story of struggle, healing, and restoration by Sgt Stephanie J. Shannon - Best Selling Author of Battling the Storm Within and Founder and CEO of Michigan Women Veterans Empowerment. Takes place at the museum, Stevens Dr, Eastpointe, starting at 2PM. "Wednesday, April 5, 2017" Southfield VFW 2645 is hosting its monthly Spaghetti Dinner social from 5 till 7PM at the post, 24222 W 9 Mile, Southfield, entrance at the rear of the building. $7 for one full spaghetti dinner, plus one 2nd portion of spaghetti with garlic bread! "Wednesday, April 5, 2017 (NEW)" The Yankee Air Museum, Willow Run Airport, is hosting another in their history series, this time regarding the ubiquitous Mr. Albert Kahn (architect), presented by Joel Stone. Starts at 7PM in the General Purpose Room. Call 734-483-4030 for more info.

"Friday & Saturday, April 7 & 8, 2017" Madison Hgts Aux 1407 is hosting a large Rummage Sale at their post, 610 E 11 Mile, Madison Hgts, from 9AM till 6PM both days. On Friday you can also purchase a fish dinner for $7.50. For more info see flyer.

"Friday, April 7, 2017" The Paralyzed Veterans of America, Michigan Chapter, is celebrating PVA awareness month with an open house at the HQ, 40550 Grand River, Novi, from 10:30AM till 3:30PM. This is a free event open to all.

"Saturday, April 8, 2017 (NEW)" The Wayne County Friend of the Court is offering a Bench Warrant Amnesty Day for people late on child support. This will take place from 1 till 4PM at the Detroit Public Library, 5201 Woodward. See flyer for complete details.

"Sunday, April 9, 2017" Buddy-to-Buddy has been selected as one of six beneficiaries for this year's Big House 5k: Trail to the Victors. The Big House 5K will take place on the UM Academic and Athletics campuses. This is a great opportunity for anyone who has ever wanted to step into the Big House and have a chance to run on the field. The finish line this year is on the 50 yard line of the University of Michigan football stadium. Please take a look at the website; www.mgoblue.com/bighouse5k. Please share this flyer with fellow runners, veterans, and community agencies, there is an opportunity to make a separate donation to any of the selected non-profits including Buddy-to-Buddy. "Wednesday, April 19, 2017" The Macomb Community College Veterinary Program will be providing a long list of free services to veterans' dogs & cats, from 11AM till 3PM. For a complete list of free services see flyer. This is by reservation only at 586-286-2096 or email to francisL@macomb.edu.
