If your group has an event benefiting veterans, or you hear of an event, please share with me so I can share with the veteran community.  I would rather get an event 3 times than not at all!

"Help support Buddy-2-Buddy (IMPORTANT)" The Buddy-to-Buddy Volunteer Veteran Program needs your help to keep this critical program in place in order to continue to support thousands of Michigan veterans and service members. Visit www.friends.umich.edu/buddy-to-buddy and help support Buddy-to-Buddy in its goal to generate the funding that enables the program and its volunteers to help Michigan's service members and veterans. AND ALSO NEW: Home Front Strong is hosting an 8 week program to help military of veterans and their families prepare for, and cope with, the challenges of deployment & military life. "Peace of Mind for us older vets!" As we all get older we need to start thinking about our medical records, a living will, a regular will, funeral expenses, etc. The State Bar of Michigan has put together a terrific booklet covering these topics with forms you can fill out at home to cover a simple will, living will, etc. Take a look to see if you should do any of this!

"Thursday, September 15, 2016" Vets Returning Home is hosting a Country Concert to benefit their shelter at Royalty House, Warren, from 6:30PM till late! Tickets are $15 with main attraction Joey Vee. For more info and tickets visit there website or see flyer.
"Thursday, September 15, 2016" Woodside Bible Church in Troy is hosting a Veterans Benefit Concert. This is a fund-raiser to help us build the 75+ unit apartments in Pontiac for homeless or imminently homeless Veterans. We do have a small number of free tickets for Vets that we will be handing out personally. Everyone else can purchase them. Go to www.iTickets.com look for Matthew West for September 15th and click on the event, then on "Place Order" You'll be asked for special code so type in comehome and you will see this page (ticket prices start are $20 General Admission – Balcony only), $25 Main Floor Reserved, $75 Gold Circle, $125 VIP (includes post-concert Dessert Reception), until August 9th at midnight. After that, anyone can buy them. All tickets can be upgraded for the Dessert Reception by adding $35 to any individual ticket (except VIP). Donations are welcomed to offset costs for the free Veterans tickets.
"Friday, September 16, 2016" The SMGA is hosting their 4th annual Wounded Warrior Golf Tournament to benefit the Fallen & Wounded Soldier Fund. Will take place at the Firestone Golf Club, 1984 Taylor, Auburn Hills, with an 11:30AM check in & 1:30PM shotgun start. Visit their website to register or seeflyer for more info.
"Friday, September 16, 2016" The National POW/MIA Recognition Day event hosted by the POW Committee of Michigan is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the "Michigan Remembers" POW/MIA Memorial, Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens, 43300 West 12 Mile Rd. "Saturday, September 17, 2016 (NEW)" Mark your calendars for the Ann Arbor Track Club's Kensington Challenge 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, September 17 at the Kensington Metropark in Milford. The Ann Arbor Track Club has designated the Buddy-to-Buddy Volunteer Veteran Program as the charitable recipient of this event's profits. "Saturday, September 17, 2016 (NEW)" The Beginning of Royal Canadian Legion Week, Amherstburg Legion Branch 157 will be holding a parade. Marshalling at General Amherst High School at 1000 hrs. March-off is at 1030 hrs to RCL Branch 157. There will be a short ceremony recognizing Veterans who have received The French Legion Medal of Honour. World War II Veteran Douglas Ramsay of Amherstburg will be receiving his Medal. Guests of Honour will include Mayor Aldo Dicarlo and Royal Canadian Legion Zone A Commander Refreshments will be served .
"Saturday, Sunday, September 17, 18 2016" DAV Chapter 125 is hosting a free car show at Island Lake State Park, Kent Lake Beach, both days. Free entry, free parking, free to show your car. "Sunday, September 18, 2016 (JUST IN!)" Camp Liberty has been offered some FREE tickets for Veterans and military personnel for this coming Sunday's 3rd Annual Firing Line BBQ in Westland. The September 18th event to support Camp Liberty is from 4:00pm to 8:00pm and is located at 33000 Ford Road, Westland, MI 48185. Flyer attached. Come join us for the BBQ, raffles, family shooting events in their indoor range, and silent auctions. The free tickets are for the Veterans only, but please invite your family and friends. They can learn about safe pistol shooting at a professional range if they'd like to check it out. Tickets are available for our civilian friends and donors looking to support our mission for $35 and children under 14 are $15.  Please reserve your tickets through Rick Briggs at rvbriggsjr@yahoo.com by sending me your your name, phone and number of tickets needed (how many free and how many being purchased.) You will pick your tickets up at the will call registration table on check in.

"Sunday, September 18, 2016" A Patriot Day Festival will take place at the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm, 1005 Van Hoosen Rd, Rochester Hills, fro 1 till 5PM. Patriot Week's 7th Annual Patriot Festival will be at a new location this year! Featuring patriotic activities and centered around a great local historic cite, the Patriot Festival will include speeches and presentations from dignitaries, schools, students, and others. "Tuesday, September 20, 2016"The Canton Community Foundation is hosting a Veterans Summit at the Westland City Hall, 36300 Warren Rd, Westland, from 9AM till Noon. Numerous topics of interest for vets will be covered. For more info see flyer or call 734-495-1200.
"Wednesday, September 21, 2016" Veterans in Business is having its monthly free meeting for all vets owning a business, at Level One Bank, 37100 Woodward, Bloomfield Twp, starting at 11:30AM with lunch. guest speaker is James Marusich, VA Economic Liaison. "Thursday, September 22, 2016" The American Indian Veterans of MI are hosting a Steak Dinner Fundraiser at their bldg, 26641 Lawrence, Center Line, from 5 till 10PM. Admission of $15 includes steak and all the fixiings, and soft drinks. For more info call Chris at 248-210-6153 or see flyer.

"Friday thru Tuesday, September 23 thru 27, 2016" Veterans are invited to participate in the 11th Annual Disabled Veterans and Law Enforcement Officers Free Pheasant Hunt at Tails-A-Waggin Acres Hunting Preserve in Marion, MI. The hunt will include the dates of September 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27 (Friday through Tuesday). Veterans and officers are asked to select one these dates and do their best to attend on their selected date. Because of travel distance, hunts will be scheduled at 9AM, 11AM and 1PM each day. Previous hunts have been exciting and last year, the crew from "Michigan Out of Doors" was there to capture the hunts on video and share with Michigan viewers. Click here to view last year's video. Michigan Out of Doors - Veterans Pheasant Hunt (Look for episode 1543 (Go to the 19 minute mark) Tails-A-Waggin can accommodate up to 40 veterans per day so there are plenty of slots available for this hunt. The hunt includes free pheasant hunting, a free lunch buffet, guides with dogs and cleaning services if you want to bring pheasants home. All hunters will be escorted by guides and their dogs, so expect to walk for about 2 hours during the day (special mobility vehicles are available for vets needing assistance) . Bring your favorite shotgun or borrow one of our 12 or 20 gauge shotguns. Number 6 lead shot or smaller shotgun shells are recommended. Hunters orange caps and apparel are suggested. "Saturday & Sunday, September 24 & 25, 2016" The Women Marines Association is hosting a meeting of our fellow women veterans. Information on VA Benefits, VA Home Loans and much more. Where: Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn Lodge, 1 Covered Bridge Ln, Frankenmuth, Michigan 48734 (map) (989) 652-7200 Description: Come and join us for on Sunday at Noon at the Bavarian Inn Lodge for the traditional Frankenmuth chicken dinner. We have reserved a block of rooms for the 24th for those who would like to spend the night. A double room is $159, Premium double or king is $169 and suite is $219. You can have up to 4 in a room. "Saturday, September 24, 2016" Over 100 volunteer lawyers will be present to assist veterans wishing to have non-violent criminal items expunged from their records. Get your slate clean! . Project Clean Slate FAQs What is Project Clean Slate? o Project Clean Slate is a City of Detroit Initiative to help residents get their criminal records expunged to assist in better job opportunities. o At the Project Clean Slate Fair there will be resources available to help you: § Prepare application for record expungement § Get connected with an attorney that can help you through the process § Find information about ex-offender jobs available § Find information about Job Readiness programs and Workforce Development Who Qualifies for a Record Expungement? o You are NOT ELIGIBLE for Set-Aside (Expungement) if any of the following are true: § It has been less than five (5) years since your release from prison, discharge from probation or parole; § If your conviction is for the following offenses: · If you commit or attempt to commit a felony for which the punishment is maximum possible life sentence, such as, but not limited to: murder, armed robbery, etc.; · If you have been convicted of any offense classified as "Criminal Sexual Conduct" (CSC), First (1st) through Third (3rd) Degrees or assault with intent for such conduct (including attempt); · If you have been convicted of a CSC Fourth (4th) Degree and have been convicted of more than two minor offenses; · If you have been convicted of child abuse in the second degree; · If you have been convicted of child pornography; · If you have been convicted of an internet or computer offense; · Any traffic violation is unable to be Set-Aside, including drunk driving offenses; · If you have a felony conviction of domestic violence in addition to a misdemeanor domestic violence offense; · If you are convicted of a human trafficking crime and cannot prove that you were a victim of human trafficking; · If you are convicted of an act of terrorism § If you have more than one felony, or more that two misdemeanor offenses; o Please note that a conviction that was deferred or dismissed due to successful completion of a program will count as a misdemeanor. What do I have to bring to make the most of the fair? § ID § Any information or legal documentation you have regarding your offenses, discharged and program participation Can I pre-register? § By completing the per-registration form ahead of time, you will be able to reduce the time you spend waiting for someone to help you § You will also be able to help guarantee that there will be enough resources available § Pre-Registration Form What resources will be at the fair? § To learn about Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation (DESC) and how they can help you! § MSP/DPD- They will be on site to help answer questions about your record, and whether or not you can qualify for a record expungement today! § Lawyers- There will be many lawyers on site to help answer questions about the expungement process, who qualifies, and if you qualify, they will helping to get the process started! § Vendors o Southwest Economic Solutions o The Resources Network o Mariners Inn Other vendors will be on site providing other support for Project Clean Slate Participants. "Thursday, September 29, 2016" Rochester Mills Beer Company is hosting a a fundraiser for Warriors Hockey, a hockey team consisting of wounded warriors, all day, at 400 Water St, Rochester. 20% of all funds raised go toward supporting the hockey team, but you must have the attached flyer.
