ANNOUNCEMENTS!
"Freedom Center @ North Terminal Now Open!" The Metro Airport North Freedom Center has opened, at gate D-17. The hours of operation, however, are limited due to a lack of volunteers! We need you! You get free parking at the airport (handy when you go on vacation) and a chance to serve the troops as they pass thru. To volunteer visit the Freedom Center website and go to volunteer.
"Free Legal Services" The Legal Aid & Defender Association, Inc., is hosting numerous (17 to be exact) free legal clinics (priority for vets) in both Oakland & Macomb counties for the next 6 months, all starting at 10AM. "VA Golden Age Games coming to Detroit" The VA Golden Age Games are coming to Detroit in July 2016. This will be open to all veterans that are enrolled in the VA Health System. To get a sneak peek see early flyer or visit their new website!
"Home Front Strong" This is a program open to all current military/veterans/partners for 8 weeks to help cope with or rebound from the challenges of deployment & military life. You can receive up to $140 for attending. For more info contact Jodi at 734-998-5849 or see flyer.
"Vietnam Veterans 50th Anniversary Video" The Vietnam 50 Anniversary Commission has released a video about Vietnam and those that served. This video can be seen here.
EVENTS!
"Friday, January 29, 2016" The Student Veterans of America (SVA) at U of M Ann Arbor are hosting their 7th annual Benefit Dinner with the proceeds helping the Washtenaw County Vet Treatment Court. The event starts at 6PM in the Rogel Ballroom at the Michigan Union, Ann Arbor. Tickets range from $35 to $135. For more info see flyer. For tickets visit the official ticket website.
"Friday, January 29, 2016 (NEW)" US Congressman David Trott, 11th District, will be handing out Vietnam 50th Anniversary Pins at the Canton Twp Boardroom, 1150 S Canton Center Rd, Canton, from 11:30 till 1:30PM.
"Saturday, January 30, 2016" Unity of Royal Oak, sponsored by Vaughn Respite, is hosting an event to assist veterans in finding housing, plus vet services, free hair cuts, $3000 worth of give-a-ways, along with breakfast, lunch, & dinner. Event starts at 9AM and runs till 4PM at Unity, 2500 Crooks Rd, Royal Oak. For more info call 313-246-2886.
"Saturday, January 30, 2016 (POSTPONED)" An Expungement Fair will be held for veterans with past felony or non-violent misdemeanors from 9AM till 1PM. For location & appointment call Karen at 313-377-0673. Postponed till sometime in February. You may still call the number for an appointment.
"Wednesday, February 3, 2016 (NEW)" The Yankee Air Museum at Willow Run Airport is hosting another in their free World War II history series, this time Dr. Greg Sumner from the University of Detroit Mercy will be releasing a new book about Detroit during World War II. You can hear his lecture in the General Purpose Meeting Room starting at 7PM
"Thursday, February 4, 2016" Oakland County Veterans Community Action Team (VCAT) will be hosting a resource info seminar for organizations that provide services for veterans, from 10AM till 1PM at JVS, 29699 Southfield Rd, Southfield. This event is not for veterans, but for the groups that help veterans. To attendclick this link.
"Saturday, February 6, 2016 (NEW)" The Desert Angels are hosting another in their series of packing parties to ship packages to troops overseas. This event will be at Clarkston High School, Flemings Lake Rd, Clarkston, in the cafeteria, from 8 till 11AM. For more info call Michelle at 248-891-5377. See their website for items needed.
"Sunday, February 7, 2016" Berkley Legion Post 374 is hosting a Super Bowl Souper Bowl dinner and watch the game at their post, 2079 W. 12 Mile Rd., Berkley, from 4:30 till when the game is over. Cost is $10 per person. For more details see their flyer.
"Thursday, February 11, 2016 (NEW)" The Desert Angels are hosting another in their series of packing parties to ship packages to troops overseas. This event will be at Oakland County Sportsman Club, 4770 Waterford Rd, Clarkston, from 4 till 6PM.. See their website for items needed.

(LANSING) - The Michigan American Legion now has an accredited Veteran service officer available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday of each week. The American Legion Veteran service officer services all veterans and their families with filing claims to the Veterans Administration on the veteran's behalf or to check the status of a claim already filed. Veterans and current service members in the Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties now have more opportunities to file their claim or ask questions. Centrally located in the tri-county area at 212 N.
