Korean War Armistice Ceremony, July 25, 5:30 p.m. , Henry Ford Centennial Library Auditorium

The Dearborn Allied War Veterans Council (DAWVC) and a variety of Korean-American organizations will commemorate the 62th anniversary of the Korean War armistice at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 25 in the auditorium of the Henry Ford Centennial Library, 16301 Michigan Avenue.

The public is invited to the ceremony and to a free reception afterwards at Dearborn's Polish Legion of American Veterans, #75.

This is the 15th year for the event, which honors those who served in the military during the Korean War. It will be led by John Ruselowski, chairman of the organizing committee and a Korean War veteran.

"Every year, I'm moved by the support for this commemoration and the bond that is so evident between our American veterans and the South Korean representatives. We pause to pay respect to those who gave their lives in this war to stop communist aggression," Ruselowski said. "This is a night of thanks, gratitude and remembrance."

Helping organize the evening are the Korean-American Society of Metro Detroit and the Korean War Veterans of America, Michigan Chapter 256.

The colorful and moving ceremony will include remarks by Dearborn Mayor John B. O'Reilly; Consul General of the Republic of Korea, Sang-iI Kim; Korean-American Society of Metro Detroit President, Julius Whang; and Congresswoman Debbie Dingell.

The roll call of honor tribute to the 26 Dearborn men who lost their lives during the Korean War will be read by Purple Heart recipient George Harvey and Arman Alviani.

The evening includes the placing of wreaths to honor all Korean War veterans and closing remarks by DAWVC Commander Sean Green.

Following the ceremony at 7 p.m., a public reception will take place at the Polish Legion of American Veterans #75 Hall, 7900 Greenfield Rd., Dearborn, MI  48126.
