FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MEDIA ADVISORY
American Legion Invites the Public to a
Four Chaplains Interfaith Memorial Service
The American Legion invites the public to participate in the observance of the Four Chaplains memorial Service at 2:00 pm on February 8, 2014 in the ballroom of The Lapeer American Legion Post 16, 1701 W. Genesee St. Lapeer, Michigan.
The Four Chaplains Memorial Service honors four Army Chaplains –Lt. George L. Fox, Methodist; Lt. Alexander D. Goode, Jewish; Lt. John P. Washington, Roman Catholic;  and Lt. Clark V. Poling, Reformed Church of America, - who gave up their life jackets and their lives so that younger soldiers could live when the USAT Dorchester was torpedoed and sunk by a German submarine, February 3, 1943.
This is a way to honor all veterans who have served while remembering the selfless act of these brave men.
It is a reminder that we should all strive to care for our fellow man and reach across whatever barriers we may have for the greater good of mankind.
Light snacks and refreshments will be available after the service. Members of The American Legion Family will be available for interview.
