The Michigan Legion Donates Classroom Flags to Detroit School

The American Legion Department of Michigan today donated 36 flags to the Bennett Elementary School in Southwest Detroit for the class rooms.  The school suffered a fire several years ago and their flags were destroyed.  Due to a lack of funding, a member of the school contacted Doug Williams, the Michigan Legion Legislative Director, after seeing an article about a bill signed into law for having flags made in the USA in government buildings.  The principle explained they are committed to teaching flag etiquette to all children in the school and the pledge is the most important part.

The American Legion Emblem sales has a special class room flag, they were ordered and presented to the school's summer time program.  We look forward to helping other schools put flags in the classroom.

The American Legion Department of Michigan represents over 70,000 members in the State of Michigan. The American Legion was founded in 1919, based on “The Four Pillars”; veteran rehabilitation, Americanism, child welfare, and national security and continued above all its mission as a consumers’ advocate for veterans.
