The American Legion Department of Michigan elects New State Commander
LANSING - Delegates to Michigan’s 94th State convention
elected Tom Brown of American Legion Post 274 in Oscoda, Michigan
as the 2012 – 2013 State Commander for The American Legion Department of
Michigan Sunday July 1st, 2012 at the Radisson Hotel in Kalamazoo,
Michigan.
Commander Brown earned his eligibility for the American Legion
through his service in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1985. Mr. Brown
retired from the United States Air Force with over 20 years of service. After
working for Lockheed Corporation as a supervisor for 2 years he went to work
for the United States Postal Service. He
retired from The Postal Service after over 22 years. He has been married to Rysta, who is a member
of the American Legion Auxiliary, for 31 years.
He has 3 sons, Abraham, Justin and Benjamin who are all members of the
Sons of the American Legion. Tom is
member of the Sons of the American Legion, the 40 & 8 and a Life member of
the Disabled American Veterans. He is a
member of Sacred Heart Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Commander Brown is a 29 year Honorary Life member of
Loud-Merkel-LaPlante Post 274 in Oscoda Michigan. He has held every office in the Post,
including Commander for four terms. He
has held office of the District, State and National levels of The American
Legion.
The American Legion Department of Michigan represents over
70,000 members in the State of Michigan. The American Legion was founded in
1919, based on “The Four Pillars”; veteran rehabilitation, Americanism, child
welfare, and national security and continued above all its mission as a
