Michigan Legion Boys State Opens the 75th
Delegation
(MIDLAND, MI)- Sunday June 17th, 2012 marked the
75th opening of The American Legion Department of Michigan Boys
State program. Over 260 high school juniors
will spend 1 week at Northwood University in Midland, learning about the
government process, by doing. From
holding political conventions, holding primaries, and campaigning for offices
from city attorneys to State Governor.
Once elections are held and winners determined they will begin running
their cities, counties, and state.
Lifelong friendships will be established and an interest in various
careers will be established.
Mike Ginocchio spoke at the opening ceremony; he
expressed the difference having Boys State on his College application made in
his acceptance at Norte Dame University.
He explained that the school said that his grades were like everyone
else’s who applied, so were many of his accomplishments during high school, but
what set him apart was his participation in Boys State. Mike was one of 2 boys who represented
Michigan at Boys Nation in 2011. Boys
State gave Mike more interest in studying law.
