Michigan Legion Boys State Opens the 75th Delegation

(MIDLAND, MI)-  Sunday June 17th, 2012 marked the 75th opening of The American Legion Department of Michigan Boys State program.  Over 260 high school juniors will spend 1 week at Northwood University in Midland, learning about the government process, by doing.  From holding political conventions, holding primaries, and campaigning for offices from city attorneys to State Governor.  Once elections are held and winners determined they will begin running their cities, counties, and state.  Lifelong friendships will be established and an interest in various careers will be established.
Mike Ginocchio spoke at the opening ceremony; he expressed the difference having Boys State on his College application made in his acceptance at Norte Dame University.  He explained that the school said that his grades were like everyone else’s who applied, so were many of his accomplishments during high school, but what set him apart was his participation in Boys State.  Mike was one of 2 boys who represented Michigan at Boys Nation in 2011.  Boys State gave Mike more interest in studying law.
