Thank You Farmington & Farmington Hills Michigan Community

From American Legion Post 346 in Farmington, MI

FARMINGTON, MI (May 21st, 2012)- The American Legionnaires and Ladies Auxiliary of Farmington Post 346 would like to give a heart-felt Thank You to the communities of Farmington and Farmington Hills for helping to make this year's Poppy Days a success. It's hard to imagine that a little crepe paper flower can do so much good. Each poppy is hand made by hospitalized and disabled veterans who are paid a small amount for each one, for some this may be their only income.

Then American Legion and Auxiliary members nation-wide man street corners and side-walks to distribute poppies to the public. Poppies are never "sold" but "offered" to the public in exchange for donations, 100% of those donations are used toward programs and projects that help veterans and their families in need throughout the year. Last year alone American Legion Post 346 in Farmington gave over $6000 to local veterans and their families who were in need.

The American Legion adopted the red poppy as it's official flower in 1921. It serves as a symbol of the sacrifice in lives made by those in the armed forces, and represents the hope that none of these heroes died in vain. Wearing a poppy gives all of us the opportunity to honor and remember those who have served their country, especially those who have given their lives in it's defense.

The American Legion Department of Michigan represents over 70,000 members in the State of Michigan. The American Legion was founded in 1919, based on “The Four Pillars”; veteran rehabilitation, Americanism, child welfare, and national security and continued above all its mission as a consumers’ advocate for veterans.
