Listed below are only the events I have for the next 14 days here in the Metro Detroit area, of which there are 8 new items. You can also go to the Legion 328 website to download any flyer for these and future events (thru November) at  http://www.legionpost328.org/events.html 

If your group has an event benefiting veterans, or you hear of an event, please share with me so I can share with the veteran community.  I would rather get an event 3 times than not at all!  Please make sure any flyer lists address of event and a contact person!

  • "Patriot Week Events" The following is a listing of events put on by Patriot Week. Patriot Week renews America's spirit by celebrating the First Principles, Founding Fathers and other Patriots, vital documents and speeches, and flags that make America the greatest nation in world history. Many of current holidays have become overly commercialized or have lost their deeper meaning. We need to invigorate our appreciation and understanding of America's spirit. Anchored by the key dates of September 11 (the anniversary of the terrorists attacks) and September 17 (Constitution Day, the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution by our Founding Fathers), the Schedule for each day has a separate focus.   • September 16, 2017 8th Annual Patriot Festival Bower's Farm - 1219 E Square Lake Rd, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304 ? Join Patriot Week for their premiere event. The 8th Annual Patriot Festival returns to Bower's Farm in Bloomfield Hills. The event will include a patriotic program, games, crafts, re-enactors, music, food for purchase, and farm activities including the petting zoo and hayrides. "Fridays, 9/15 thru 10/27, Berkley Legion Steak Fry" Berkley Legion Post 374 is hosting a USDA Prime steak fry at their post, 2079 W 12 Mile, Berkley, from 5 till 8PM. Cost is $12.75 per person for a NY Strip (11oz), potato, salad, fixings. For more info see flyer.

"Thursday, September 14, 2017" Cooper Standard Foundation is hosting a Charity Sporting Clay Event to benefit the DAV at Bald Mountain, Lake Orion, with arrival at 8AM. Cost is $100 per person. For more info see flyer.

"Friday, September 15, 2017 (UPDATE)" National POW/MIA day. For poster click here. (1) A ceremony will take place at the Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens, 12 Mile & Novi Roads, Novi, starting at 6:30PM. Light refreshments will be served. For more info see flyer. (2) Another ceremony will take place starting at 2PM at Resurrection Cemetery on Clinton River Rd. VVA 154 will be providing the Honor Guard with a vigil lasting until 2PM Saturday.

"Saturday, September 16, 2017" Mission 22 is holding a Veterans Suicide Prevention walk to raise awareness on this important issue. Will be held at the Shelby Twp River Bends Park, 5700 22 Mile Road, from 9 till 11:30AM. For complete details and to register see flyer.

"Saturday, September 16, 2017 " VCAT Region 9 is holding a family fun day at Brighton Harley Davidson, Brighton, all day with WCSX Jim O'Brian. Music, kids games, food, etc. All free. See flyer for details.

"Saturday, September 16, 2017 " Great Lakes National Cemetery will host a POW/MIA service starting at 11AM. The cemetery is located at 4200 E Belford Rd, Holly. This event is sponsored by the Holly Area Vet Resource Center & VVA Chapter 175. Call 810-348-9960 for more info.

"Saturday, September 16, 2017 (NEW)" The Michigan DAV is holding a Reflections of Autumn - POW/MIA car show at the Island Lake State Park, Brighton, from Noon ill 4PM. Admission to the park is free. "Friday, Saturday, Sunday, September 15, 16, 17, 2017" The State DAV will have the Vietnam Traveling Wall at Kent Lake Beach Site all 3 days along with the MI Vietnam Wall, classic cars, & a live band. For more info call 586-415-8610 or see flyer.

"Monday, September 18, 2017" The Yankee Air Museum is hosting an 18 Hole Golf War Scramble & Fund raiser at the golf course at Selfridge, with an 11AM shotgun start. Cost is $100 and includes two tickets to Thunder Over Michigan on 9/2, or 9/3, or 9/4. For more info call them at 734-645-1150.

"Tuesday, September 19, 2017" The Women Vet Empowerment Coalition is holding it's monthly meeting for only women veterans at the Michigan Vet Foundation, 4626 Grand River, Detroit, starting at 5:30PM. This is held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. For more info call 810-373-5744 or see flyer.

"Wednesday, September 20, 2017 (NEW)" The Yankee Air Museum is having an author book signing by Valerie Van Heest on the book "Fatal Crossing," the story of NW 2501 lost over Lake Michigan in 1950. "Wednesday, September 20, 2017 (NEW)" Veterans in Business is holding its monthly free meeting at Level 1 Bank, 37100 Woodward, Bloomfield Twp, starting with lunch at 11:45am. Today's topic is Prosperity Funding Solutions. For more info see flyer.

"Saturday, September 23, 2017 " The Michigan Military Technical & Historical Society is presenting a lecture on the 1943 Detroit Riots, by Karen Miller. "Saturday, September 23, 2017 " Operation Yellow Ribbon is holding an all American Picnic to help support veterans locally. "Saturday, September 23, 2017 (NEW)" Soldier Angels is having a vet mobile food pantry at American Legion Post 375, 19486 Sherwood, Detroit, from Noon till 2PM. You must register in advance at 210-629-0020. For more info see flyer.

"Sunday, September 24, 2017" Troy VFW Post 4037 is holding their annual golf outing at the Selfridge ANGB course, 27857 S Perimeter Rd, Selfridge, starting with registration at 9:30AM & a shotgun start at 11. (LANSING) - The Michigan American Legion now has an accredited Veteran service officer available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday of each week. The American Legion Veteran service officer services all veterans and their families with filing claims to the Veterans Administration on the veteran's behalf or to check the status of a claim already filed. Veterans and current service members in the Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties now have more opportunities to file their claim or ask questions. Centrally located in the tri-county area at 212 N.
