Legion to Congress: Veterans want strong, robust VA Jun 20, 2016 Jun 20, 2016 In a strongly worded letter sent Friday to all members of Congress, American Legion National Commander Dale Barnett criticized proposals to privatize the Department of Veterans Affairs. "The American Legion has grown increasingly concerned over the past several months about egregious and politically driven comments from some groups claiming to represent veterans' needs," Barnett said. "Such comments show little concern for the millions of veterans who rely on VA care and support that they receive at their local facilities." Barnett emphasized that "The American Legion wants lawmakers to completely understand that our more than 2 million dues-paying members support a strong and robust VA that puts veterans first." Detroit Veterans Day parade update

SAVE THE DATE!!!   Keep the date of Sunday, November 6 penciled in to remember the Veterans who are no longer with us, as well as those that are. Staging begins at 10:00 AM at Martin Luther King HS, on Larned St....Parade stepoff at 12:00 A.M (noon) from Jefferson at Chene.   The MDVC is working on a number of things -   Web-site, at    www.detroitveteransdayparade.org       is ''Under construction'' in some area...   We are working on an ''on-line'' registration form for easier registration..   The Run for Vets, just prior to the parade...   Vets Fest to be held in Hart Plaza, after the parade.   I encountered James Jackson, SEN Peters' aide, at the City of Southfield Memorial Day service. He reconfirmed that SEN Peters (LDCR Peters USNR,  RET) will be our Grand Marshal.   We are always looking for members; $10.00 annual/$50.00 lifetime.
